About the project

A transparent OER guide and a replicable process.

OER Fit: English helps faculty compare OER by what they actually teach in relation to a particular course, while making the review criteria and limits visible.

Why this exists

Finding free or open materials is only the beginning. Faculty still have to decide which resources fit a particular course, what each resource actually teaches, where supplementation may be needed, and whether a promising title is worth the time required for deeper review.

OER Fit: English is designed to reduce some of that initial review work without outsourcing the academic decision. It organizes promising resources by California Community College English course, makes the criteria behind the observations visible, and shows how the same process can be replicated elsewhere.

About OER Fit: English

OER Fit: English is an independent faculty project created and maintained by Karen Crozer, a California Community College English faculty member. I maintain the project on a volunteer basis. It is not an official ASCCC OERI, California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office (CCCCO), California Common Course Numbering (CCN), articulation, or curriculum resource.

The project is intentionally revisable. Corrections, Teaching Notes, rubric feedback, updated course expectations, and stronger evidence can change what appears here over time.

Built beside OERI, not instead of it

ASCCC OERI maintains the comprehensive English OER collection, curated by discipline. OER Fit: English adds a practical course fit and comparison layer beside that work rather than replacing the official collection or faculty curriculum review.

How OER Fit reviews work

OER Fit uses a course-specific rubric to look for explicit, teachable instructional coverage rather than topic presence alone. AI can assist with a structured first pass, but source evidence is checked by a person before findings are published.

Teaching Notes remain separate from the editorial course fit review so classroom experience can confirm, complicate, or correct the initial analysis without being folded into a single score.

Accessibility

I aim for OER Fit: English to meet or exceed WCAG 2.2 Level AA for the parts of the experience controlled by this project. Pages use semantic structure, keyboard accessible controls, visible focus indicators, responsive reflow, reduced motion support, and descriptive link text.

Accessibility remains an ongoing human review process as the site changes. Third-party platforms and linked resources may have their own features or barriers.

If you encounter an accessibility barrier on this site, please email me about the accessibility issue and include the page and a short description of what was difficult to use.
